Anthropic Launches Claude Tag AI Agent for Slack to Automate Enterprise Team Workflows

Anthropic has launched “Claude Tag,” a new AI agent capability designed to integrate seamlessly into Slack and automate workflows for enterprise teams.

This announcement, made on June 23, 2026, signifies a growing synergy between collaborative platforms and autonomous AI systems.

Claude Tag enables organizations to utilize Claude as an active participant within Slack channels, where it can be assigned tasks, access approved tools and datasets, and work asynchronously alongside human team members.

Currently, this feature is available in beta for Claude Enterprise and Team customers, representing an evolution of Anthropic’s existing Claude Code capabilities.

Anthropic Launches Claude Tag AI Agent

Users can invoke the AI simply by tagging “@Claude” within a Slack conversation. Once triggered, the system breaks down requests into structured steps, executes tasks using connected tools or codebases, and delivers results directly within threaded discussions.

Unlike traditional chatbots, Claude Tag functions as a shared, persistent entity within a channel, allowing multiple users to collaborate with the same AI instance. This “multiplayer” functionality introduces a new model in which AI becomes a continuous contributor rather than a one-time assistant.

A key feature of Claude Tag is its contextual awareness. The AI builds memory over time by observing channel activity and integrating relevant knowledge from approved data sources.

This reduces repetitive input requirements and allows for more informed outputs. Anthropic has emphasized that access controls are tightly enforced, ensuring that Claude interacts only with explicitly authorized channels and does not expose sensitive information across environments.

Separate “Claude identities” can be configured for various business functions, such as engineering or sales, to prevent cross-domain data leakage, a critical consideration for enterprise security teams.

The system also supports proactive and asynchronous behavior. With “ambient” mode enabled, Claude can surface insights, flag unresolved issues, and follow up on dormant tasks without requiring direct prompts.

It can schedule and execute long-running processes independently, enabling teams to delegate workloads and focus on higher-priority activities.

According to Anthropic, internal adoption has already shown significant impact, with about 65% of the company’s product code reportedly generated using its internal version of Claude Tag.

From a governance perspective, administrators retain detailed control over deployment. They can define tool access, enforce token usage limits, and audit activity logs detailing every action taken by the AI, including user attribution.

This aligns with enterprise compliance requirements and provides visibility into AI-driven operations, an increasingly important factor as organizations integrate autonomous agents into production environments.

The launch of Claude Tag replaces the legacy “Claude in Slack” application, with a 30-day migration window for existing users. Anthropic is also offering introductory credits to encourage adoption.

Currently, Claude Tag operates on the Opus 4.8 model and is expected to expand beyond Slack to other collaboration platforms.

The introduction of Claude Tag reflects a broader industry trend toward agentic AI systems embedded within enterprise workflows.

While the productivity gains are clear, this model also raises new considerations around access control, auditability, and secure handling of sensitive organizational data, areas that cybersecurity teams will need to evaluate closely as adoption accelerates.
