Cybersecurity Firm Tenable’s CEO “Amit Yoran” has Died at 54

Tenable Holdings, Inc. has confirmed the passing of its esteemed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Amit Yoran, who succumbed to cancer on January 3, 2025.

Yoran, aged 54, was a distinguished figure in the cybersecurity realm, known for his visionary leadership and relentless drive to enhance digital security. Amit Yoran’s remarkable career in cybersecurity spanned more than two decades.

He joined Tenable as CEO in 2016, guiding the company through transformative growth, including its successful initial public offering (IPO) in 2018.

His tenure was marked by a steadfast commitment to innovation, propelling Tenable to become a global leader in exposure management and leaving an indelible impact on both the company and the broader cybersecurity community.

Leadership Transition and Legacy

Before joining Tenable, Yoran held prominent roles including President of RSA Security and founding CEO of NetWitness.

His extensive experience and strategic insights positioned Tenable at the forefront of the cybersecurity landscape, as the company developed innovative solutions to protect organizations from evolving threats.

In light of Yoran’s passing, Tenable announced a transition in leadership. Following a medical leave of absence that began on December 5, 2024, the Board has appointed Steve Vintz, CFO, and Mark Thurmond, COO, as Co-CEOs to ensure stability and continuity during this challenging time.

The Board will initiate a search for a permanent CEO, considering both internal and external candidates, while Art Coviello will assume the role of Chairman of the Board.

Despite the leadership change, Tenable remains on track financially. Preliminary results suggest that the company expects to meet or exceed its financial guidance for the fourth quarter and the full year 2024, as noted in a prior press release.

Tenable extends its deepest condolences to Yoran’s family during this difficult time, acknowledging the profound loss felt by his loved ones and the entire organization. Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.

As Tenable continues its mission to close cybersecurity gaps and protect organizations globally, Amit Yoran’s legacy will undoubtedly remain a guiding force. He is survived by his family, friends, and a grateful cybersecurity community that will forever remember his contributions.
