Firefox Fixes High-Severity Vulnerability Causing Memory Corruption via Race Condition

Mozilla has released Firefox 137.0.2, addressing a high-severity security flaw that could potentially allow attackers to exploit memory corruption.

The fix comes following the discovery and reporting of the vulnerability by the Mozilla Fuzzing Team, as detailed in Mozilla Foundation Security Advisory 2025-25.

Details of the Vulnerability

The patched vulnerability, CVE-2025-3608, was found in the nsHttpTransaction component of Firefox.

A race condition within this component could have led to memory corruption, creating an opportunity for attackers to execute arbitrary code or destabilize the browser.

While there is no evidence that this flaw has been exploited in the wild, the risk associated with memory corruption vulnerabilities is classified as high due to their potential to be leveraged for more serious attacks.

Mozilla credited its in-house Fuzzing Team with uncovering the issue. Fuzzing is an automated testing technique designed to discover coding errors and security loopholes by rapidly inputting massive amounts of random data into programs.

According to the security advisory, the race condition occurred due to mishandling of concurrent processes in the network transaction mechanism of Firefox.

This flaw could be triggered under certain network conditions when multiple threads attempted to access or alter memory regions simultaneously, resulting in undefined behavior and potential browser instability or data leakage.

The vulnerability was documented under Bug 1951554 in Mozilla’s bug tracking system. Users are strongly advised to update their browsers to Firefox 137.0.2 to mitigate any risk posed by this issue.

Mozilla continues to prioritize security by rapidly addressing vulnerabilities and improving its bug discovery methodologies. The organization encourages all users and administrators to maintain up-to-date systems.
