Firefox Launches Facebook Container Add-On that Makes Facebook Tracking Harder

Mozilla launched a new Firefox add-on Facebook container that makes tracking harder by isolating your Facebook identity from the rest of web activities.

Facebook network trackers embedded in various websites identify your hobbies, location and political persuasion based on the pages you visit.

With the new add-on Facebook container, you can use the Facebook normally as like before and the difference is that the add-on making the tracking activity harder and they cannot send you targeted ads and messages.

How the Facebook Container add-on Works

The extension used to delete your Facebook cookies and log you out of Facebook. The very next time when you try to connect with Facebook it opens in an isolated blue screen container and you can work with Facebook normally.

If you click on any other links than Facebook it opens in a new tab normally and it loads outside of the container. To note the extension doesn’t prevent mishandling of data that Facebook already has or if you permitted any third parties to obtain the data.

You can download the Firefox Facebook container addon here.

The main goal of the extension is to limit the Facebook tracking, Mozilla recommends “change your Facebook settings, use Private Browsing, enable Tracking Protection, block third-party cookies, and/or use Firefox Multi-Account Containers extension to further limit tracking“.

What function’s will not work

As you have logged in within the container embedded Facebook comments, share/like button and the website that allows you to log through Facebook account will not work.

This extension will not protect against the activities that you do on Facebook.com “including Facebook comments, photo uploads, likes, any data you share with Facebook-connected apps, etc“.

For Chrome & safari, there are a number of third-party tools like Adblock Plus & AdBlock that stops websites tracking you.

Leaving the Facebook entirely is difficult for many people, you can take control of your privacy settings and limits the data passing through API. You can customize them based on your requirements.

You can navigate through setting menu >> Apps and there you can see two options “Apps, Web sites and Plug-ins” and “Apps others use”.

Apps, Websites, and Plug-ins – If you disable this then it will cut off you completely from Facebook integrations on third-party apps or websites.

Apps others use – You can control the categories of information that people can bring with them when they use apps, games, and websites.
