Google Launches 10 New Chrome AI Enhancements Built on Gemini

Google has announced what it describes as the most significant upgrade to Chrome in its history, unveiling 10 new artificial intelligence features powered by Gemini technology.

The enhancements are designed to make browsing smarter, safer, and more productive by integrating Google AI across multiple levels of the Chrome experience.

Gemini in Chrome

The rollout marks a significant shift in how users interact with web browsers, with Gemini now embedded directly into Chrome to help users understand complex information, complete repetitive tasks, and stay protected from online threats.

The features are initially available to Mac and Windows desktop users in the United States with English language settings, with broader availability planned in the coming weeks and months.

AI-Powered Features Transforming Chrome

Among the most notable additions is Gemini integration within Chrome itself, allowing users to ask questions about webpage content without leaving their current browsing session.

The AI assistant can clarify complex information across multiple tabs simultaneously, making it easier to compare and consolidate data from different sources.

For travelers planning trips across various websites, Gemini can create unified itineraries from scattered information.

Google is also developing agentic capabilities that will enable Gemini to perform actions on behalf of users, handling tedious tasks such as booking appointments or ordering groceries.

Users maintain control and can stop these automated actions at any time. Additionally, Chrome will soon recall previously visited websites based on natural language queries, eliminating the need to search through browsing history manually.

The integration extends to Google’s ecosystem of applications, with Gemini connecting seamlessly to Calendar, YouTube, and Maps without requiring tab switching.

Users can also access Google Search’s AI Mode directly from the Chrome address bar for more complex queries and follow-up questions.

On the security front, Chrome’s Enhanced Protection mode now uses Gemini Nano to identify sophisticated scams, including fake tech support schemes, fraudulent virus warnings, and deceptive giveaways.

The browser has also implemented AI-driven notification filtering, reducing unwanted notifications for Android users by approximately 3 billion per day.

Chrome’s password management is receiving an upgrade as well, with AI acting as a password agent to change compromised credentials with a single click on supported sites, including Coursera, Spotify, Duolingo, and H&M.

The browser already alerts users to compromised passwords and will soon automate the password reset process.
