Former NSA contractor Harold Martin, 54, pleaded guilty for stealing the U.S most sensitive classified information for 20 years of his duty period.
Harold was admitted to secure the nation’s most sensitive classified secrets of defense information, but he violated the trust and puts the national security at risk by storing the most sensitive document at his home and car over the past 20 years.
Federal government employees and contractors with security clearances pledge to protect classified information, an essential part of guarding our national security,” said Assistant Director Brown.
But “Harold Martin repeatedly violated that pledge by taking large quantities of classified information over many years”.
Martin was employed from December 1993 through Aug. 27, 2016, meantime, Martin held security clearances that allowed him to have access to Top Secret and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) at various times.
These top secret information are extremely sensitive and the unauthorized
disclosure cause serious damage to the national security of the United States.
According to Depart of Justice, “He had a security clearance, with that, Martin was able to access government computer systems, programs, and information in secure locations, including classified national defense information”
“Martin has received proper training in order to protect them classified materials from unauthorized disclosure.”
Since the late 1990s, he stole and retained U.S. government property, from secure locations and computer systems even those data’s marked as highly sensitive U.S government property.
“As detailed in his plea agreement, Martin retained a vast quantity of stolen documents and other information, in both hard copy and digital form, bearing standard classification markings and relating to the national defense, at his residence, and in his vehicle. “
