HPE Alletra and Nimble Storage Flaw Grants Admin Privileges to Remote Attackers

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has released a security bulletin addressing a critical remote privilege elevation vulnerability affecting multiple storage product lines.

The flaw (CVE-2026-23594) could allow remote attackers with low-level credentials to gain administrative access to HPE Alletra 6000, Alletra 5000, and Nimble Storage Arrays under specific configurations.

Vulnerability Details

The vulnerability carries a CVSS v3.1 base score of 8.8, indicating a high-severity issue requiring immediate attention.

With an attack vector rated as Network (AV:N) and low attack complexity (AC:L), the flaw can be exploited remotely by authenticated users without requiring user interaction (UI:N).

Once successfully exploited, attackers gain complete control over affected systems, compromising confidentiality, integrity, and availability (C:H/I:H/A:H).

Affected Products and Versions

HPE has identified four product lines requiring immediate patching:

ProductVulnerable VersionsPatched Version
HPE Alletra 6000Prior to 6.1.2.800; 6.1.3 prior to 6.1.3.3006.1.2.800 or 6.1.3.300
HPE Alletra 5000Prior to 6.1.2.800; 6.1.3 prior to 6.1.3.3006.1.2.800 or 6.1.3.300
Nimble Storage Hybrid Flash ArraysPrior to 6.1.2.800; 6.1.3 prior to 6.1.3.3006.1.2.800 or 6.1.3.300
Nimble Storage All Flash ArraysPrior to 6.1.2.800; 6.1.3 prior to 6.1.3.3006.1.2.800 or 6.1.3.300

HPE strongly recommends immediate patching for all affected systems. Organisations should prioritise environments where storage arrays interact with untrusted networks or contain sensitive data.

The security update addresses the underlying privilege escalation mechanism, preventing exploitation across all affected configurations.

The security bulletin (HPESBST04995 rev.1) was released on January 20, 2026, with HPE’s Product Security Response Team confirming the vulnerability’s legitimacy and patch availability.

Organizations can subscribe to future HPE security bulletins through the HPE support website to receive timely notifications of emerging threats affecting their infrastructure.
