HSBC Bank Data Breach Exposed Account Numbers, Balances, Transaction History and Other Details

HSBC Bank data breach exposed personal details of an undisclosed number of customers. California Attorney General’s Office received a security notice of the security incident.

Hackers gained access to following details that include your full name, mailing
address, phone number, email address, date of birth, account numbers, account
types, account balances, transaction history, payee account information, and
statement history where available.

The bank sent a notification to customers on 2 November, according to breach notice HSBC bank identified the accounts s being accessed by unauthorized users
between October 4, 2018, and October 14, 2018.

“When HSBC discovered your online account was impacted, we suspended online access to prevent further unauthorized entry of your account.” the bank statement reads.

If you received an Email or call if your account gets affected, then it is recommended to reset the credentials to gain access.

The leaked data can be abused by cybercriminals to launch targeted and to commit Bank Fraud Techniques to steal your information.

It is still not clear on how the attackers steal the data and number of account impacted with the data breach.

HSBC Bank recommends customers to Monitor your account transactions for any unauthorized activity and contact us immediately if any is noticed.

“We apologize for this inconvenience. We have enhanced our authentication process for HSBC Personal Internet Banking, adding an extra layer of security,” reads breach notice.

HSBC bank is the 7th largest bank in the world and has around 3,900 offices in 67 countries and territories across Africa, Asia, Oceania, Europe, North America, and South America, and around 38 million customers.
