SIX Advantages of Using A VPN Network

A vast majority of internet users in our contemporary world today are quite familiar with the term VPN. Still, very few of them understand its efficacy and how it works.

VPN, otherwise known as Virtual Private Network, is a network system that provides security and privacy services for its users. It does this by creating an encrypted tunnel in which users’ internet activities can be hidden. Irrespective of the device you are using, you will find a VPN network for you. For instance, there are VPNs for iPhone, Android and even desktop devices.

The VPN solution is too important to be ignored. It has proven to be beneficial to internet users in many ways. Here are six of the benefits of using a VPN.

1. Security and Privacy

The advent of VPN has proffered a long-lasting solution to one of the major problems encountered by internet users, the problem of security. Recently there was a report of a large-scale data breach whereby over 700 million LinkedIn users’ accounts were hacked.

That is just one of the data leaks that makes the news. How about ones you don’t know but are happening? With a VPN, you can stop this from happening to you and access the internet safely.

VPN protects users’ personal information and data sent to and from their devices. It also prevents the tracking of users’ location, IP address, and search histories by Internet Service Providers (ISPs), websites, cable companies, and others.

2. Working Remotely

VPN allows corporate office workers to connect to the office network and work from home. Certain confidential pieces of information that are meant to be available in the office alone can be safely accessed while working remotely. Security is always guaranteed when the data travels to and from home.

However, it is important to note that the corporate VPNs used to connect to office networks are not the same as those adopted for personal use. Therefore, there is a need to manually set up the corporate VPN on your devices to gain access to the office network.

3. Bypassing Internet Restrictions

There are instances where the government in some countries place restrictions or limitations on what can be done on the internet or certain social media. These restrictions deprive citizens of their right to receive or circulate information freely. These internet filters and blockage can be detoured in situations like this using a VPN.

4. Saves Cost

One of the reasons why VPN is widely used in our world today, most especially for business operations, is because of its cost-effectiveness. VPN has helped many organizations save a lot of money by serving as an alternative to the costly network capacity line that companies use. Costs of server maintenance and paying for long-distance telephone charges are drastically reduced with VPN. Also, activating a VPN saves you from certain cost-inclined tracking done by airlines, websites, and other organizations.

5. Smart Homes Protection

Smart homeowners are usually faced with the challenges of dealing with hackers. The smart devices that make up these homes are not as secure as certain devices like your phones and laptops. Hacking can be prevented in situations like this by using VPN. Connecting the VPN directly to your router would go a long way in protecting your home.

6. Prevents Bandwidth Throttling

Bandwidth throttling is experienced very often by internet users. It happens when your internet service providers or anyone who has control over your network deliberately slows down your internet speed. This can be prevented by using a VPN. The VPN does this by encrypting the mobile traffic from any devices you might be using.
