The State Bar of Texas has confirmed a data breach following the detection of unauthorized activity on its network earlier this year.
According to an official notice, the breach occurred between January 28, 2025, and February 9, 2025, during which an unauthorized actor gained access to sensitive information stored on the organization’s systems.
The intrusion was discovered on February 12, 2025, prompting immediate action to secure the network and initiate an investigation with the assistance of third-party forensic specialists.
The investigation revealed that certain personal data may have been accessed or exfiltrated during the breach.
While the specific data elements vary by individual, they include names and other personally identifiable information (PII).
Impacted individuals are being notified directly via written communication.
The State Bar of Texas has emphasized that there is no current evidence of misuse or fraudulent activity involving the compromised data but is urging affected parties to remain vigilant.
In response to the breach, the State Bar of Texas has implemented additional security measures to prevent future incidents and is reviewing its data privacy policies.
To assist affected individuals, the organization is offering complimentary credit monitoring services through Experian for a specified period.
This service includes features such as credit monitoring, identity restoration support, and identity theft insurance coverage up to $1 million.
Consumers are encouraged to enroll in these services by July 31, 2025, using an activation code provided in their notification letter.
Enrollment does not require a credit card and offers tools for fraud detection and resolution.
Additionally, individuals are advised to monitor their financial accounts and review their credit reports for any suspicious activity over the next 12 to 24 months.
