The Weather Channel Under Ransomware Attack – Site Went Offline for 90 Minutes

The weather channel hit with a ransomware attack on its own network stop’s the live Broadcasting and down the website about 90 minutes On Thursday morning, from 6AM to 7:39AM.

The Weather Channel (TWC) is an American pay television channel owned by The Weather Group, LLC and the channel broadcasts weather forecasts and weather-related news and analysis, along with documentaries and entertainment programming related to weather.

During the Incident viewers weren’t able to see any useful weather information from the www.weather.com and also it affects the regular show on its TV channel.

Weather channel confirmed that their network under Malicious Cyberattack” the channel confirmed in a tweet, adding that “backup mechanisms” had allowed the channel to restore service. “We apologize for any inconvenience to viewers as we work to resolve the matter,”  “

The company didn’t reveal any further detailed information, Officials told via The Wall Street Journal that the bad guys hit the Weather channel network with ransomware and tried to extort money from the company by lock down the computers

The Incident now handling by the FBI and it’s unclear how the attackers compromise the network and infect the systems.

Weather Channel posted statements after the TV network was initially knocked off air, “We are experiencing technical difficulties with our live broadcast,” the Weather Channel posted around 6:18 a.m. on its morning show’s Facebook page. “We apologize for any inconvenience while we resolve this issue.”
