University Drop-out Jailed for Running a $100M Worth Darkweb Site that Trades Computer Hacking Tools

Thomas White, 24, a university drop-out from Liverpool John Moores University, was arrested for running a $100m Dark Web Website. After college drop out he is an administrator of the Silk Road.

FBI closed Silk Road in 2013, within a month of Silk Road shutdown, he launched Silk Road 2.0, which allows users to anonymously buy and sell drugs, computer hacking tools, and other illegal goods, using the digital currency bitcoin.

White’s website Silk Road 2.0 specialized in dealing with class A and B drugs, his website has traded 96 million dollars’ worth of goods and he uses to take 1 and 5% commission on each sale from thousands of users.

Investigators not sure on how much money he earned, he believed to had 50 bitcoins worth £192,000 seized by investigators.

He was arrested at an apartment in 2014, NCA officials identified him by tracking the parcel of drugs that he ordered through the original Silk Road website.

Officials raided his flat where they discovered a laptop under his bed, which contains the indecent images of children and they uncovered his chats with other Silk Road 2.0 administrators.

NCA investigators found a vast amount of encrypted material materials on his computer that contains hacked data from the FBI, Nasa, the FBI, users’ details from Ashley Madison.

White, who used aliases ‘St Evo’ and ‘Dread Pirate Roberts’, ran Silk Road 2.0 from November 2013 to March 2014. He then took a back seat but still involved himself with the running of the site by a US subordinate, where their computer servers were based, reads NCA press release.

He pleaded guilty for drug trafficking, money laundering and making 464 category A indecent images of children and he sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court. He has been jailed for five years and four months.

“White was a well-regarded member of the original Silk Road hierarchy. He used this to his advantage when the site was closed down. Close working with American partners in the FBI, Homeland Security and the Department of Justice has resulted in the takedown of global illegal drug empires.”
