Ways to Make Teaching Online a Better Experience for Students and Teachers

Running an online class can be as rewarding as it is challenging. Here are some useful insights into how you can make teaching online a better experience for both yourself and your students.

Keep The Learning Process Simple and Practical

To keep the learning process practical and straightforward, you must implement different teaching methods. If we consider this concept from a scientific point of view, then it sounds like this: “Teaching methods are ways of joint activity of a teacher and students aimed at programming assignment help and solving learning problems.” In modern education, the following teaching methods are distinguished:

  • Verbal methods.
  • Visual methods.
  • Practical methods.

Each of these methods includes additional techniques that you can combine. Let’s look at them in detail.

Verbal Methods

Verbal methods occupy a leading place in the system of teaching methods. Verbal forms make it possible to convey a large amount of information in the shortest possible time, pose problems for students, and indicate ways to solve them. The word activates the imagination, memory, feelings of students. Verbal methods are divided into the following types:

  • The story is an oral figurative, consistent presentation of a small amount of material. The method of presenting educational material differs from explanation. It is a narrative method used when the teacher tells students examples, describes events, phenomena, the experience of enterprises, characterizes literary heroes, historical figures, scientists, etc.
  • The conversation is a dialogic teaching method. By posing a carefully thought-out system of questions, the teacher leads students to understand new material or checks the assimilation of what has already been studied.
  • Discussion is a method of learning based on the exchange of views on a particular issue, and these views reflect the participants’ own opinions or are based on the views of others. This method is advisable when students have a significant degree of maturity and independent thinking can argue, prove and substantiate their point of view. A well-conducted discussion has a teaching and educational value: it teaches a deeper understanding of the problem, the ability to defend one’s position, and take into account the opinions of others.

Visual Methods

Visual teaching methods are understood as such methods in which the assimilation of educational material is significantly dependent on the visual aids and technical means used in the learning process. Visual techniques are used in conjunction with verbal and practical teaching methods.

Scientists divide visual teaching methods into two groups:

  • Illustration method. It involves showing students illustrated manuals: posters, tables, pictures, maps, sketches on the board, etc.
  • Demonstration method. It is usually associated with demonstrating instruments, experiments, technical installations, films, filmstrips, etc.

Practical Methods

Practical teaching methods are based on the practical activities of students. These methods form skills and abilities. Practical methods include:

  • Exercises. Exercise is understood as the repeated performance of a mental or practical action to master or improve its quality.
  • Creative work. The performance of creative work is an essential means of developing students’ creative abilities, developing the skills of purposeful, independent work, expanding and deepening knowledge, and using them in performing specific tasks.
  • Laboratory works. This type of work involves the conduct of experiments by students on the teacher’s instructions using instruments, tools, and other technical devices.

Use the Right Tools to Motivate Your Students

When it comes to online teaching, choosing the right tools is crucial. Before holding such an event, you must learn to use all online technologies. Without mastering the right tools, you won’t be able to grab students’ attention, convey information well, or demonstrate important material. Here are the primary tools you should be able to work with:

  • Zoom or Google Hangouts. These tools will come in handy for you to conduct video conferences. The use of messengers is ineffective since they do not provide live communication. Using these programs, you will set the exact time students should join the lesson. You can also provide students with access to an online class to solve projects or communicate jointly.
  • YouTube or Vimeo. If you’re worried and can’t show students an experiment or teach lesson information in real-time, you can record a video. To do this, you need a camera, a microphone, and a platform that allows you to provide access to a certain circle of people to view. These platforms are YouTube or Vimeo. Here you can upload your videos and share them with students.
  • Loom or Camtasia. Use a screenshot to show students material from your computer. Loom or Camtasia are two reliable tools that help you take a screenshot and send it to a messenger or social network for public viewing.

In addition to the above tools, you can use PowerPoint, Prezi, or programs with educational games. The first two applications will help you create exciting pictures that diversify the lesson or complement the information.

Develop a Method for Testing Your Lessons

The organization and control of homework online are not much different from face-to-face lessons. However, these methods will allow you to quickly and efficiently check and monitor student projects:

  • Be specific and clear. Regardless of the student’s age, it is essential to make sure that he understands what his homework is. At the end of the lesson, take 3-5 minutes to explain the task. With a probability of 90%, you will get the desired result.
  • Set deadlines. The time for which the student will be able to complete the task is calculated based on the complexity of the topic and volume. In addition, do not forget that each student has their speed: someone can go to sports training, someone can be busy with household chores. Therefore, consult with students and decide how much time they need to solve the problem.
  • Set up an automatic check. In the modern world, this is important: students want to immediately see what they are doing and where else there are errors. Therefore, use automated job checking programs. For example, Kahoot and Quizlet are sites for creating online games and tests. Padlet and Miro are boards for creating lessons, assignments, tasks.

You will not be able to control the process of doing homework completely. In online classes, the main thing is to convey to the student the value of the task correctly and show how much his progress increases when the project is completed and how much it falls when it is not done.

Teaching Online

An article by Nord Anglia Education on the importance of online learning states that it brings students and teachers closer together. The methods we give on organizing this type of work well confirm this statement. If you follow all the advice and fulfill your goals with love, you will realize yourself, without a doubt, in online teaching. We wish you success!
