WhatsApp Disappearing Message Feature Now Available For All Newly Initiated Chats

The temporary or disappearing message option was implemented by WhatsApp over a year ago, and since then users have to activate the option in case they want to use it, and by default, the validity of these messages lasts for 7 days.

But, now, Meta has expanded the features of WhatsApp’s disappearing Messages for all newly initiated chats. In short, Meta has given all the WhatsApp users more control and privacy on WhatsApp with the default disappearing messages but this time with multiple durations.

This means that all the messages exchanged between the users will automatically disappear after the specified time has passed. This new option is available for both individual and group conversations that will be available to the public from now on.

Multiple Durations

The most interesting new feature of WhatsApp disappearing Message is that from now on users will not be limited to the default duration of 7 days, instead they will get multiple time durations.

Along with the existing option of 7 days, Meta has added two more new options:-

  • 24 hours
  • 90 days

In the case of WhatsApp groups, the temporality will be optional, as it can be activated or deactivated anytime while creating a new conversation. WhatsApp has claimed that this latest update will not affect the existing chats of the users.

In this feature, WhatsApp will notify both parties about the activation of this feature, if any user turns on this feature, whether the receiver or the sender. And here WhatsApp has done this to keep everything transparent between the users.

How to Enable/Disable This Feature?

If you want to enable or disable this new feature then you can follow the simple steps that we have mentioned below:-

  • First of all, open your WhatsApp.
  • Then tap on the three dots located in the upper right corner.
  • Now select the Settings option.
  • After that, you have to select the Account option.
  • Now select the Privacy option.
  • Finally, now select the Default message timer option to activate.
  • And from the same section, you can also disable this feature.

These two features, disappearing messages and the end-to-end encryption makes WhatsApp a perfect choice for users who are concerned about their privacy.
