Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro Support Ends in October 2026

Microsoft has issued a 60-day reminder that the Windows 11 version 24H2 Home and Pro editions will reach the end of updates on October 13, 2026.

This date also marks the end of servicing for Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016. As a result, both organizations and individual users must plan their upgrade or migration activities before their systems are no longer supported.

Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro Support Ends

After October 13, devices running Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro will no longer receive monthly security updates, non-security preview releases, or quality fixes.

While the operating system will continue to function, unsupported systems will lack protections against newly discovered vulnerabilities, exploit techniques, malware campaigns, and other evolving threats.

This deadline specifically applies to consumer-focused Windows 11 24H2 editions, including Home and Pro. Microsoft recommends that affected users upgrade to Windows 11 version 25H2, also known as the Windows 11 2025 Update, to remain eligible for monthly security and quality updates.

The lifecycle schedule varies for commercial editions. Windows 11 version 24H2 Enterprise and Education editions will remain supported until October 12, 2027, giving managed environments an additional year to complete testing, deployment planning, and phased upgrades.

However, enterprises should not use this extended support window as an excuse to delay. Security teams should identify all Windows 11 24H2 installations, determine their edition and servicing status, validate application compatibility with Windows 11 25H2, and establish deployment rings for both pilot and broad rollout phases.

Organizations should also review endpoint-management telemetry for devices that may be unable to receive the feature update due to hardware constraints, compatibility issues, policy restrictions, or insufficient storage.

Unmanaged or rarely connected endpoints require particular attention since they can remain on outdated builds long after centralized deployment efforts begin.

Microsoft’s October 13 deadline also impacts Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016, a long-term servicing release commonly used for specialized, fixed-purpose, and operationally sensitive systems.

Devices running this release will stop receiving monthly security updates and non-security preview releases after the support date.

Microsoft recommends migrating affected systems to the latest Long-Term Servicing Channel release, Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC 2024.

This path may be particularly relevant for environments that support industrial systems, kiosks, medical devices, point-of-sale terminals, and other workloads where feature stability and controlled change management are priorities.

For organizations unable to complete the transition by the deadline, Microsoft offers Extended Security Updates (ESU) as a temporary measure.

ESU provides additional time for migration planning but should be viewed as a risk-reduction bridge rather than a permanent solution.

Unsupported Windows devices create a growing security risk, as attackers often exploit vulnerabilities once patches are no longer available for supported versions.

When regular updates stop, unpatched devices can become attractive targets for ransomware operators, credential theft campaigns, and lateral movement activities.

Security teams should begin asset discovery, verify editions, conduct upgrade testing, and track exceptions now. Updating Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro devices to version 25H2 before October 13, 2026, is the recommended approach to maintain access to Microsoft’s monthly security protections.
