Microsoft today unveiled a sweeping set of artificial intelligence enhancements for Windows 11, marking the most ambitious infusion of AI tools into its flagship operating system to date.
Building on recent findings that nearly 60 percent of PC users have embraced generative AI for work and business tasks while 64 percent leverage it for personal pursuits such as art and music, Windows 11 now promises more intuitive, accessible, and powerful experiences across everyday activities.
From smarter settings adjustments to creative image editing and seamless multitasking, these features underscore Microsoft’s vision of AI as a ubiquitous assistant woven into the fabric of the PC experience.
One of the cornerstones of the update is the debut of Windows’ first AI‐powered agent in the Settings app on Copilot+ PCs.
Leveraging the new Mu language model, this agent allows users to describe desired changes in natural language—for example, “enable quiet hours” or “connect Bluetooth headphones”—and immediately receive one-click actions to implement or undo those changes.
Supporting hundreds of display, connectivity and accessibility options, the agent transforms Settings into a conversational interface, while improved Windows search ensures that when an AI-driven adjustment isn’t possible, users are still directed swiftly to relevant controls.
Productivity has been turbocharged with Click to Do, a preview feature that surfaces context-aware actions for text and images anywhere on screen.
Once invoked by a Win+Click gesture or via the Snipping Tool, Click to Do offers options such as drafting an email, scheduling a Teams meeting or spinning up a bulleted list—all without switching windows.
New additions include Practice in Reading Coach, which listens to users read selected text aloud and offers fluency feedback, and Read with Immersive Reader, providing a customizable, distraction-free environment with read-aloud, syllable breakdown, and parts-of-speech highlighting.
Those working in Word can instantly transform on-screen snippets into full drafts via Draft with Copilot, while Teams integration enables direct messaging and meeting scheduling from any recognized email address.
The Photos app now features Relight, a professional-grade lighting tool that lets users place and adjust up to three virtual lights on a subject, tweak intensity, color and softness, and choose from presets like “Studio Portrait” or “Cinematic Glow.”
Meanwhile, Paint has been enriched with an AI-powered sticker generator—type a prompt such as “cat in sunglasses” to spawn unique graphics—and an object select tool that uses intelligent segmentation to isolate and edit elements on the canvas, streamlining everything from simple mock-ups to complex illustrations.
Capture workflows benefit from Snipping Tool’s new Perfect Screenshot and Color Picker.
Perfect Screenshot automatically sizes captures to the content of a selection, eliminating manual cropping, while Color Picker lets anyone sample on-screen colors and retrieve precise HEX, RGB or HSL values with zoom-assisted accuracy.
These enhancements aim to reduce friction for designers, developers and power users who rely on rapid, pixel-perfect screen grabs and color matching as part of their daily tasks.
Underpinning these features is Microsoft Copilot and a next-generation Edge browser equipped with Copilot Vision, which can “see” screen content in real time and guide users through tasks with Highlights, showing exactly where to click.
Edge Game Assist further integrates into Windows’ Game Bar, bringing tips, community sites and AI-driven recommendations directly into play sessions.
Reliability has also been addressed: Quick Machine Recovery automates fixes during unexpected restarts, and a streamlined restart UI cuts waiting times from 40 to two seconds for most Windows 11 devices.
These updates begin rolling out this month via controlled feature rollout on Copilot+ PCs, with some experiences available through the Microsoft Store and non-security preview updates.
As support for Windows 10 ends in October 2025, Microsoft is encouraging users to move to Windows 11 to take full advantage of these AI innovations that promise to make PCs smarter, more responsive and better tailored to individual needs.
