X to Collect Biometric Data For Premium Users to Add Verification Layer

The social network formerly known as Twitter, X, has released its latest data-gathering policy announcement. This includes collecting user information, such as educational history and biometric data.

According to the policy, X may collect and use user biometric information for safety, security, and identification purposes with user consent.

Elon Musk, who bought Twitter last year, has said one of his priorities is eradicating fake accounts and offering legitimate users more services.

Biometric options are enabled for premium users only, and they can provide their government ID proof to add an extra verification layer.

X did not mention what kind of biometric data it plans to collect. However, such data can include facial images, fingerprints, and iris patterns.

Biometric Data Plans

“Biometric data  will additionally help us tie, for those that choose, an account to a real person by processing their government issued ID,” X said in a statement. “This will also help X fight impersonation attempts and make the platform more secure.”

In Addition to that, they enabled audio and video calling through X without sharing their phone number.

In the last press meet, Elon Musk shared his vision of expanding the services of X to create an “everything APP.”

As a first step towards the future, he dubbed Twitter X and changed the logo to build an all-encompassing service.

The company also plans to collect consumers’ job history and educational background data to share relevant advertisements to the customers.

According to the updated privacy policy, they may collect personal information (such as employment history, educational history, employment preferences, skills and abilities, job search activity and engagement, and so on) to recommend potential jobs for the users.

However, their previous policy, which will be in place until Sept. 29, didn’t include references to biometric data or job and employment history.
