Microsoft released a new security update with the fixes of Spoofing vulnerability affected an Outlook for Android that allows attackers to perform Cross-site Scripting attacks in vulnerable android device.
A spoofing attack is a method of fraudulent or malicious practice in which hackers impersonates from an unknown source disguised as a source known to the receiver to steal data, spread malware, or bypass access controls.
Outlook for Android, the app powered by Microsoft helps millions of Outlook email users connect all their email accounts, calendars, and files in their Android device.
Spoofing vulnerability that resides in the Android version of outlook let Authenticated attackers sending a specially crafted email message to the victim.
An attacker who successfully exploits this vulnerability could then perform cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks on vulnerable Android devices and run scripts in the context of the current user.
According to Microsoft Update, “The security update addresses the vulnerability by correcting how Outlook for Android parses specially crafted email messages.”
The vulnerability can track CVE-2019-1105, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) urged users and administrators to review the Microsoft Security Advisory and apply the necessary update.
