Paypal Acquired Company TIO Networks Suffered a Data Breach that Impacts 1.6 Million Customers

PayPal confirmed the suspension of operation with TIO Networks, as they identified unauthorized access to the servers that store customers personal information.

TIO Networks was acquired by PayPal in July 2017, as announced on November 10 TIO network was suspended to protect customer data and also a part of an ongoing investigation for identifying vulnerabilities in their platform.

With their ongoing investigation, they found hackers had access to the TIO network including the confidential areas where the personal information of TIO’s customers and customers of TIO billers stored according to the press release.

We are committed to addressing this situation as quickly and efficiently as possible, in a manner that protects customers and their data. In the meantime, all affected customers are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the credit monitoring services, says TIO.

TIO has also begun working with the companies it services to notify potentially affected individuals, and PayPal is working with a consumer credit reporting agency to provide free credit monitoring memberships. Individuals who are affected will be contacted directly and receive instructions to sign up for monitoring.

PayPal platform is not impacted in any way, as the TIO systems are entirely separate from the PayPal network, and PayPal’s customers’ data remains secure, says PayPal.
