Chord Specialty Dental Partners is under scrutiny after revealing a data breach that compromised the personal and health information of its customers.

The breach, which involved unauthorized access to employee email accounts, has left the sensitive data of thousands of individuals exposed and has prompted legal and cybersecurity investigations.

The incident came to light when Chord detected suspicious activity in an employee’s email account.

Immediate action was taken to secure the account, and third-party cybersecurity experts were brought in to investigate the scope of the breach.

The findings revealed that unauthorized access occurred over an extended period, from August 19, 2024, to September 25, 2024, impacting several email accounts containing confidential data.

What Information Was Compromised?

An internal review determined that a range of sensitive personal and protected health information (PHI) might have been accessed during the breach. The compromised data includes:

  • Names
  • Addresses
  • Social Security numbers
  • Driver’s license numbers
  • Bank account details
  • Payment card information
  • Dates of birth
  • Medical records
  • Health insurance details

Chord completed its investigation on March 14, 2025, and began notifying individuals whose data was compromised on the same day.

The breach presents significant risks for affected individuals, including identity theft, financial fraud, and potential misuse of medical data.

With the exposed information, cybercriminals could open fraudulent accounts, steal funds, or leverage medical details for insurance fraud.

While Chord has not disclosed the exact number of individuals affected, the breadth of the data involved highlights the severity of the incident.

The company has urged those who received notification letters regarding the breach to remain vigilant and monitor their accounts.

Legal Assistance and Compensation

In response to the breach, law firm Levi & Korsinsky, LLP has launched an investigation into the matter. The firm is exploring whether Chord customers are entitled to compensation for the breach of their sensitive personal and health data.

As a prominent consumer advocacy law firm, Levi & Korsinsky specializes in holding corporations accountable for data breaches and has recovered millions for victims of similar incidents.

Chord Specialty Dental Partners has pledged to enhance its cybersecurity measures to prevent future incidents.

The company is also offering resources such as credit monitoring services to assist affected individuals.

Data breaches like this serve as a stark reminder of the importance of robust cybersecurity practices.

Customers are advised to carefully monitor their financial and medical accounts and take precautionary measures to safeguard their identities.
