The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in partnership with the U.S. Department of State, has announced a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to the identification or location of individuals connected to the recent “Salt Typhoon” cyberattacks.
The campaign, which is believed to be linked to actors affiliated with the People’s Republic of China (PRC), has targeted multiple U.S. telecommunications companies in a far-reaching and sophisticated hacking operation.
According to a public service announcement released by the FBI and the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), the Salt Typhoon hackers have engaged in a broad cyber-espionage campaign.

The intrusions resulted in the theft of call data records, access to private communications of several victims, and copying of select information that was the subject of ongoing U.S. law enforcement investigations.
The scale and complexity of these operations suggest a well-resourced group to target victims not just within the United States, but globally.
Federal investigators have been tracking the Salt Typhoon group for months, with previous public advisories issued in October and November 2024.
In December 2024, authorities published the “Enhanced Visibility and Hardening Guidance for Communications Infrastructure,” urging telecommunications companies to reinforce their security measures and operate with heightened vigilance.
“The FBI remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting the U.S. telecommunications sector and the individuals and organizations targeted by Salt Typhoon,” reads the official statement.
“We are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and disrupting those responsible for these damaging cyber activities.”
The Department of State’s “Rewards for Justice” (RFJ) program is offering up to $10 million for information on foreign government-linked individuals participating in malicious cyber activities against critical U.S. infrastructure, in violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA).
The reward underscores the urgency and severity with which the U.S. government views the Salt Typhoon campaign, and marks one of the largest financial incentives ever offered for information on cybercriminals.
Authorities are encouraging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
Tips can be provided to local FBI field offices, submitted online at the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (www.ic3.gov), or sent anonymously via the RFJ’s secure Signal number (+1-202-702-7843) or Tor-based tip line.
As cyber threats to critical infrastructure continue to escalate, law enforcement agencies are emphasizing the importance of public vigilance and cross-sector collaboration to identify and stop those responsible for such attacks.
