Microsoft Released New Chromium Based Edge Browser for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1

Finally, Microsoft released a new Chromium-based Edge browser for Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. The features and experience are pretty much the same as on Windows 10.

Microsoft initially begins to roll out the new channel release in April for the first Dev and Canary channel builds of the next version of Microsoft Edge which is based on Chromium open source project.

New Microsoft Edge builds are available through preview channels which are called as “Microsoft Edge Insider Channels.” by Microsoft.

Microsoft was initially working for the first two Microsoft Edge Insider Channels, Canary and Dev. You can find more information about These channels here.

This new release applicable only for Edge Canary Channel which is available for Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 and the Dev Channel version will coming soon.

Dev Channel version is more stable than Edge canary Channel, and the Microsoft Edge team will release a weekly update while Canary Channel is getting daily update.

According to Microsoft release update, Delivering the next version of Microsoft Edge to all supported versions of Windows is part of our goal to improve the web browsing experience for our customers on every device, and to empower developers to build great experiences with less fragmentation.

To reduce developers pain on the web, a new version of Chromium-based Edge will have the same always up-to-date platform and the same developer tools on all supported versions of Windows and macOS.

Microsoft facing some of the issues such as lack of dark mode support and no support for AAD sign-in in first Canary builds and the Edge team working for it and promise to resolve it soon.
