Microsoft Teams users across the globe are experiencing significant disruptions in file-sharing capabilities due to an unexpected outage, impacting workplace communication and collaboration.

A wave of reports began surfacing from organizations and individuals unable to share files within Microsoft Teams—the popular collaboration platform used by businesses, schools, and organizations worldwide.

Users attempting to send or access documents through Teams encountered a range of error messages, with some noting issues reaching the app and others unable to access files stored in SharePoint via the Teams interface.

Shortly after the disruptions began, Microsoft acknowledged the problem on its official Microsoft 365 Status X (formerly Twitter) handle.

The tech giant confirmed that it is investigating the issue, which is being tracked internally under the incident ID “TM1055900.”

While the Microsoft 365 Service Health Status website initially reported no known problems, some users speculated that the glitch is affecting only specific functionalities, particularly those integrated with SharePoint and OneDrive.

“This is a critical tool for our remote teams,” shared one IT administrator at a mid-sized consultancy firm. “We noticed that files wouldn’t upload and shared links didn’t work in chat or channels. It’s slowed down project work significantly.”

Microsoft’s support forums and community channels have been active with users swapping potential solutions.

Suggestions include double-checking file permissions, verifying team membership, and troubleshooting OneDrive syncing—though most reported little success. The company has not yet provided a timeline for restoring normal service.

In light of the ongoing outage, Microsoft has advised affected users to leverage alternative file-sharing methods, such as uploading documents to OneDrive and sharing access directly with colleagues or family group members.

While this workaround may help some teams, the disruption underscores the centrality of seamless file sharing to the Teams experience.

This incident follows a series of recent outages affecting other Microsoft services, including disruptions last week to the Exchange Admin Center and Microsoft’s family subscription platforms.

The recurring nature of these outages has prompted concerns among IT leaders about the resilience of large-scale cloud services.

The latest Teams file-sharing interruption highlights both the complexity of maintaining vast cloud-based infrastructure and the broad impact such service disruptions can have on business, education, and collaborative workflows.

Microsoft continues to monitor the situation and has pledged to update users through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center as more information becomes available.

For now, organizations are left to improvise as they await a resolution, emphasizing the importance of backup systems—and the challenges of digital dependence in today’s connected world.
