A critical vulnerability has been discovered in the Ivanti Cloud Services Application (CSA), potentially allowing attackers to execute remote code and access restricted functionality.

Ivanti has released an urgent security update to address the issues, tracked as CVE-2024-47908 and CVE-2024-11771, urging customers to upgrade to version 5.0.5 to mitigate the threat.

The two vulnerabilities affect CSA versions 5.0.4 and earlier, and while there is no evidence to suggest active exploitation in the wild, the company has classified one of the flaws as critical, emphasizing the need for immediate action.

Vulnerability Details

CVE-2024-47908 (Critical)

This vulnerability is an operating system (OS) command injection flaw in the admin web console of CSA.

It allows a remote, authenticated attacker with administrator privileges to achieve remote code execution.

Exploitation could lead to complete compromise of the target system, as successful attacks affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

This issue has been assigned CWE-78 (Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an OS Command).

CVE-2024-11771 (Medium)

The second flaw, CVE-2024-11771, is a path traversal vulnerability. An unauthenticated attacker could exploit this flaw to access restricted functionality on vulnerable systems.

While rated as medium in severity, it could still pose significant risks depending on the environment. This issue has been categorized under CWE-22 (Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory).

Affected and Resolved Versions

The vulnerabilities affect Ivanti CSA versions 5.0.4 and earlier. To address these security flaws, Ivanti has made CSA version 5.0.5 available via its download portal.

Upgrading to this version will mitigate these vulnerabilities.

Ivanti strongly recommends that all organizations using CSA immediately update their software to version 5.0.5.

Customers who continue to run older versions (5.0.4 or earlier) are at heightened risk of exploitation.

The discovery of these vulnerabilities highlights the growing risks associated with cloud services software.

Organizations using Ivanti CSA must act without delay to ensure their systems are secure. By applying the prescribed update (CSA 5.0.5), businesses can prevent potential exploitation and maintain the integrity of their IT infrastructure.
