Crypto payment gateways for ecommerce: 7 services to examine

Crypto payment gateways for ecommerce: 7 services to examine

Adding cryptocurrency to an online store starts at checkout, where customers need clear payment instructions, and merchants need accurate transaction statuses.

Once funds arrive, the store must match each payment to an order, record any conversion or retained asset balance, and make the resulting proceeds visible to finance.

For merchants considering the CryptoProcessing payment solution or competing gateways, the review should be grounded in their store architecture and payment mix.

A small retailer using a standard plugin will approach integration differently from a multi-brand operator with its own checkout and finance systems.

Look beyond the checkout

A gateway can enable crypto payment acceptance through a plugin, hosted page, payment button, invoice, payment link, or API. These options require different levels of engineering work.

The right one should preserve order identification, customer communication, and reliable confirmation of payment.

A processor may extend that functionality with monitoring, conversion, fiat or stablecoin settlement, reporting, and payouts. Those additions matter when a business must close its books, issue refunds, or pay suppliers.

Accepting an asset is straightforward to describe; supporting it in a routine finance process takes more detailed planning.

Store owners should distinguish the coins offered at checkout from the currency received after settlement. Bitcoin and Ethereum may appeal to some customers, but their market prices fluctuate.

USDT and USDC are designed to maintain more predictable reference values, which can help merchants organize cross-border settlements. Stablecoins still involve issuer, blockchain, and operational considerations.

Questions for the ecommerce team

Use the following checks before narrowing the candidate list:

  • Confirm compatibility with the storefront and checkout design
  • Identify which customer wallets, assets, and networks need support
  • Ask how failed, delayed, or underpaid transactions are handled
  • Check fiat and stablecoin settlement availability by market
  • Review refund procedures and order-level transaction reporting
  • Assess KYB, AML screening, licensing, and finance documentation
  • Determine whether API access is needed for custom workflows

Fees deserve review in a commercial negotiation, but they shouldn’t replace operational testing. A low-friction checkout with unclear reconciliation can cost the accounting team considerable time.

Providers with ecommerce applications

CoinGate

CoinGate combines payment buttons, store plugins, and APIs with stablecoin acceptance and fiat settlement. It also supports refund workflows and outgoing crypto payouts.

An ecommerce test should cover checkout, post-sale adjustments, and supplier payments using the same store and accounting records.

BitPay

BitPay accepts Bitcoin, major cryptocurrencies, and stablecoins and offers fiat settlement. Its invoicing tools suit merchants with some off-site orders, while BitPay Send addresses separate business payout requirements.

Before deployment, compare transaction-status updates and refund handling with the store’s existing order workflow.

CryptoProcessing

CryptoProcessing links digital asset checkout with conversion, fiat settlement, compliance functions, and business wallet services. Online retailers should request an order-level sample of conversion and settlement data.

That export needs to identify the original payment even when the asset sent by the customer differs from the operating currency received.

NOWPayments

NOWPayments supports many cryptocurrencies and supplies invoices, payment links, plugins, APIs, and mass payout tools. It may work for retailers serving customers with varied asset preferences.

Any fiat settlement requirement should be checked against the chosen partner arrangement.

Triple-A

Triple-A offers stablecoin acceptance, local-currency settlement in supported markets, and payouts to business counterparties.

For a retailer selling abroad, the relevant checks include refund routes, settlement currency, and any restrictions on the legal entity running the store. A service’s global positioning doesn’t establish eligibility in every country.

CoinPayments

CoinPayments focuses on multi-coin acceptance and associated wallet services. Crypto-native stores with customers seeking a broad token selection may find it worth testing.

The available settlement and payout configuration should be confirmed before deployment.

Coinbase Business

Coinbase Commerce’s former checkout portal closed after March 31, 2026. Eligible retailers can evaluate Coinbase Business for stablecoin checkout, invoicing, payment links, and payouts. USDC is accepted, while USDT payments are available in the U.S. and select jurisdictions.

Receipts settle in USDC by default. The business product is available to qualifying entities in the U.S. and Singapore.

Commercial details to settle before integration

The merchant and provider should agree on the destination for funds, the handling of payment exceptions, and the records used by customer support. A checkout failure becomes harder to resolve if the team can’t find a transfer by order number.

Refund procedures should identify supported networks and approval owners. Plugins need routine updates, while custom checkouts require ongoing event monitoring.

Beyond the online store

The same providers may be relevant to SaaS companies, iGaming operators, and marketplaces, but their priorities differ. A software platform needs dependable invoices, API integration, and clarity on recurring billing.

An iGaming operator emphasizes payment volume, transaction screening, uptime, and settlement speed. A marketplace has to plan for onward payments to sellers or affiliates.

A retailer with international customers also needs to decide which balance receives the proceeds. Fiat settlement may be appropriate when expenses are denominated in USD or EUR.

Stablecoin settlement can support transfers to counterparties who can receive those assets. The decision influences treasury procedures as much as the checkout configuration.

How to conduct a meaningful trial

Test the gateway with several supported assets and realistic order values. Confirm what the customer sees, when the order changes status, and how the transaction appears in the settlement report.

Then rehearse an exception, such as a delayed payment, and document the response. The exercise should involve engineering, customer support, and finance.

Retailers with stores or event sales can assess a crypto POS terminal as a separate payment channel. In-person acceptance needs its own operational checks, especially around reconciliation with the online ledger.

Choose the gateway that records the correct order state, supports refunds and settlement in the store’s markets, and gives finance enough detail to close its books. Additional token coverage doesn’t compensate for missing order-level data.
