High School in London Forced to Sends Students Home Following Ransomware Attack

Charles Darwin School in Biggin Hill, London, has been forced to close its doors following a sophisticated ransomware attack temporarily.

The incident has left students and parents uncertain as the school works to restore its systems and secure sensitive data.

The Cyber Attack: What Happened?

The ransomware attack was first detected last week when staff noticed unusual activity on the school’s IT systems.

In response to the attack, Charles Darwin School has decided to close from Monday, September 9th, to Wednesday, September 11th.

This closure allows staff devices to be cleaned and teachers to re-plan lessons. The school emphasizes that safeguarding remains a top priority, with solutions in place to ensure student safety during this period.

Students and parents have been advised to regularly check Satchel One, the school’s online platform, for updates and assignments.

All student 365 accounts have been disabled as a precaution, and parents are urged to be vigilant about any unusual email activity.

The school has also limited communication to urgent matters via phone, as email access is currently unavailable.

Charles Darwin School is collaborating with experts from the Inicio Trust, cybersecurity specialists, data recovery teams, and government cybersecurity agencies to address the attack.

A forensic investigation is underway to determine the extent of the breach and develop a plan for restoring the school’s systems.

Headteacher Aston Smith has expressed gratitude for the community’s patience and understanding during this challenging time.

He has assured parents that regular updates will be provided through letters and the school’s social media channels, including Twitter (@CDarwinSchool) and Instagram (@cdarwinschool).
