2025 Unit4 Review: Is It Good?

When you run a large enterprise, especially in the public sector or as a professional services provider, you need the right tools. If you don’t have your enterprise resource planning (ERP) nailed down, then you won’t go far.

Fortunately, that’s where this Unit4 review comes in handy. We explore what this tool actually does and then list some of the things we like about it, and what we don’t.

Then, at the end, we provide you with a nice, handy roundup, letting you know whether we recommend the product or not.

What Does Unit4 Do?

But first, let’s clear up the confusion and have a proper think about what it is that Unit4 actually does. When it comes to B2B software like this, it isn’t always clear where the value lies.

You can think of Unit4 as a type of niche ERP for public sector organisations and professional services companies. It has specific tools that enable it to perform better than the industry average in these contents (in our opinion).

It’s also quite up to date with the types of tools that it uses. Unit4 isn’t afraid to bolt on new capabilities when required, making it something that a lot of companies are now using as standard.

What Rocked About Unit4

So, what did we like about Unit4 and what would make us consider recommending it to enterprises and organizations?

Consulting All In One Place

First, Unit4 is a consulting platform that offers unified management consulting via the cloud. This means that it is handy for things like HR functionality, financials, and strategic planning, without having to rely on disparate tools (which is what most companies do).

Ultimately, this approach meant that we could save a lot of time. With Unit4, we weren’t as constrained when we wanted to work across teams or even departments. This cut down on subscription fees and meant that our money could effectively go further.

Project Focus

Furthermore, Unit4’s ERP focuses on projects first (i.e. getting things done). The idea here is to leverage the tool as much as possible and use it to move the entire business forward instead of just chronicle what’s happening right now.

The nice thing about this is that it means that you can align the ERP with your enterprise’s goals. If there’s something you want to achieve with it, it’ll help you do that.

The tool is adaptable to the specific business system, so we didn’t find that we were having to shoehorn anything.

Portfolio Management

Then, there’s the portfolio management element. What’s nice about this tool is that it makes organizations more flexible and means quicker responses to issues when they arise.

What this means in practice is that staff do less ad hoc work, like putting out fires. Instead, the basic processes they need to use are all contained in Unit4, and they have the leverage they require to solve them quickly.

Team-Focused Approaches

Because Unit4 is a people-focused ERP, its software is built around team-based approaches. That means that it’s more concerned about how to manage people than it is with things like inventory or supply chain oversight.

If you run an ecommerce store, this might be a bad thing. But we found it to be a tremendous advantage in organizations that rely on a lot of human capital. Public sector departments that can’t put their people to work properly often fall behind.

Superior Risk Management

What about risk management? That’s usually a part of an ERP and we were happy to see that Unit4 was taking it seriously.

For example, Unit4 comes with a bunch of risk assessment tools. These make it easier to determine whether your company should take a risk or not.

Furthermore, if team members do make mistakes, Unit4 can offer corrective action. The in-built AI systems are another layer of backup worth using in challenging situations.

Global Scale

Lastly, on the topic of things we liked about Unit4, we can’t skip commenting on the global scale of the platform.

The ERP means that people-focused enterprises can expand overseas or increase the number of locations that they have, which gave us confidence that the software would continue to serve us well into the future.

What Wasn’t So Good

Was there anything that we just didn’t like about Unit4? Not really. Nothing was a dealbreaker for us, we’re happy to say.

However, there are some minor concerns that could get in the way of enjoying the product fully that you should be aware of. We don’t think that these should put you off if you’re a market fit, but you still need to be careful.

For example, Unit4 may have some retrieval issues. It can be hard to find data on past purchases sometimes.

Furthermore, there may be some device support issues. If you’re the sort of organization that is constantly sending people into the field, then you may have to do some adaptation until Unit4 does everything you want it to do.

Otherwise, it could seem a little temperamental. Finally, you might see the odd error message on Unit4. That’s normal for most ERPs, but it can be annoying if you’re looking for something perfectly polished.

If you can persist with the tool, you can usually solve the majority of these problems, but it can take time.

Final Rating

Overall, Unit4 is one of the most compelling ERPs we’ve reviewed in a long time. It’s not perfect, but it’s close enough for us to highly recommend it. Any downsides are minor and don’t really impede the enjoyment of the product.

Unit4 is best for building businesses that focus on people. It’s also suitable for public sector organizations that need to manage timelines and expectations.

In general, it doesn’t target ecommerce stores or car mechanics. But that doesn’t matter because you probably wouldn’t be here if you were in those industries.

Ultimately, we think Unit4 is one of the best out there, so we’re giving it our five-star rating.
