Microsoft Announced OneDrive Personal Vault, a protected area in OneDrive to secure important and most sensitive files. The Personal Vault comes with a secure authentication method, and it includes verification such as fingerprint, face, PIN, or an OTP via email or SMS.
It also offers encryption on rest and transit, suspicious activity monitoring, ransomware detection and recovery, mass file deletion notification and recovery, virus scanning on download for known threats, and version history for all file types.
“OneDrive runs on the trusted Microsoft cloud, which has many security measures in place to keep your files safe. However, we understand that some people want more protection for their most important and sensitive files, which is why we’re introducing Personal Vault,” read Microsoft blog post.
The Personal Vault can be quickly unlocked through PIN, fingerprint, OTP through Email or SMS, and Microsoft Authenticator app. Also, you can the photos or scan the documents directly into your personal Vault.
With your windows 10 computer OneDrive syncs the personal Vault to BitLocker-encrypted area of your local hard drive, for additional protection with iOS or Android device, Microsoft recommends enabling encryption.
The Personal Vault will automatically lock after a short period of inactivity, once it got locked all the files that files will get locked and need to reauthenticate.
Personal Vault will begin rolling out soon in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada and will be available to everyone by the end of the year. Also, Microsoft enhances the OneDrive standalone storage plan from 50 GB to 100 GB without any additional cost.
