Microsoft Warns Windows 11 23H2 Support Ending in 60 Days

Microsoft has issued an urgent reminder to enterprise and educational institutions worldwide about the impending end of support for Windows 11 version 22H2.

With just 60 days remaining, organizations must prepare for the October 14, 2025, deadline when critical security updates will cease for Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions.

Timeline showing Windows 10 and Windows 11 versions’ end of security update support dates from 2024 to 2029, including Windows 11 23H2 support ending in November 2026

The software giant announced that October 14, 2025, marks the final monthly security update for Windows 11 22H2 Enterprise and Education editions.

After this date, devices running these versions will no longer receive monthly security patches or preview updates containing protections against emerging cybersecurity threats.

This creates significant security vulnerabilities for organizations that fail to upgrade their systems in time.

Microsoft’s lifecycle announcement emphasizes that this end-of-servicing deadline is firm and non-negotiable.

The timing coincides with similar support endings for Windows 10 version 22H2 across all editions, including Home, Pro, Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise variants.

Additionally, legacy systems running Windows 10 2015 LTSB and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB 2015 will also lose support on the same date.

Microsoft strongly recommends immediate migration to Windows 11’s latest version, 24H2, to maintain security coverage and access to new features.

The company has positioned this upgrade as essential for maintaining cybersecurity posture in enterprise environments.

Organizations delaying this transition risk exposing their networks to unpatched vulnerabilities that could be exploited by cybercriminals.

The upgrade timeline provides organizations with sufficient notice to plan their migration strategies, test compatibility with existing software, and train IT staff on deployment procedures.

Microsoft’s lifecycle policy documentation offers detailed guidance for enterprise administrators managing large-scale deployments across multiple devices and user accounts.

For organizations unable to complete immediate upgrades, Microsoft offers Extended Security Updates through specialized programs.

However, these solutions come with additional costs and complexity compared to standard upgrade paths.

The ESU program primarily targets scenarios where critical business applications require additional time for compatibility testing or where hardware constraints prevent immediate migration.

Enterprise customers should consult Microsoft’s Lifecycle Policy search tool and Windows 11 release information resources to understand their specific upgrade requirements and timelines.

Proactive planning now prevents potential security incidents and operational disruptions that could result from running unsupported Windows versions beyond October 14, 2025.
